Safari in Yala National Park

Yala National Park is Sri Lanka's premier wildlife sanctuary, revered internationally for hosting the highest recorded density of leopards anywhere in the world. Situated on the southeastern coastal plains, Yala is a visually arresting wilderness of thorn scrubland, open grasslands, brackish coastal lagoons, and monumental granite rock outcrops that glow amber in the morning light.

The undisputed monarch of Yala is the Sri Lankan Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya), an apex predator that roams with exceptional boldness due to the historical absence of rival predators like lions or tigers. Morning and twilight game drives offer unmatched opportunities to witness these magnificent felines lounging on sun-warmed boulders, stalking spotted deer through scrub, or drinking at waterholes.
